Training the New Spam Filter

I recently upgraded the framework that drives the developer.* blogs and discussion site, and it looks like the spam filter has become more sensitive as a result. I've also upgraded the captcha module.

Foreword by Tom DeMarco - Software Creativity 2.0 Update

As I write this, I'm expecting our first proof back from the printer, and the proofreader and indexer are hard at work on those final-stage tasks. The book has come in at a hefty 472 pages. I've read it several times now, and each read reinforces the good feeling about the decision to publish this great book.

New Software Conflict 2.0 Review

I came across this excellent review of Software Conflict 2.0 today, written by blogger Ben Pryor. Frankly, this review makes my day. Ben's reaction validates exactly the reasons why we were inspired to do this, and why we chose this book as the place to start. I know that Ben is going to like Software Creativity 2.0 even more.

New "Interface Oriented Design" Book Excerpt & Review

Last night I uploaded to the Articles side of developer.* a book excerpt from a recent release from one of our favorite book publishers, the Pragmatic Programmers. The book is called Interface Oriented Design and was written by Ken Pugh, who won a Jolt award last year for his previous book, Prefactoring. On the developer.* web site, we have excerpted part of Chapter 5, "Inheritance and Interfaces."

Site FAQ Updated

The idea behind these changes is to slightly adjust the presentation of developer.* Blogs somewhat to more explicitly support the idea that people are welcome to post here without making some big blog commitment. The site has evolved into a kind of bulletin board, where an ecclectic mixture of people post an ecclectic mixture of things. This seems like a cool thing to me.

Software Creativity 2.0 Book and Contest

developer.* Books (DeveloperDotStar.com) is proud to announce the forthcoming November 2006 publication of Software Creativity 2.0, by software pioneer Robert L. Glass. The release of this updated, expanded, and revised edition will be the culmination of a ten year odyssey for this great book, which started out with disappointing sales for its original publisher and later became an in-demand cult classic. Many consider it a must-read in the software field.

Two New developer.* Blogs

This is the inaugural post to two new developer.* blogs. As I'll describe in a moment, both of these new blogs will have their own dedicated URLs and RSS feeds. Most of the time, posts to these blogs will not show up on the front page of the developer.* Blogs and Discussion sub-site or in the main developer.* Blogs RSS feed. Instead, new posts to these blogs will show up in their own lists on the right side of the main page, on their own home pages, and in their own feeds. This way people can follow these more narrowly focussed blogs separately from the main flow of blogs.
