Why developer.*?

Sometimes we need more than just how-to articles, API references, code snippets, and industry buzz. All of the above are essential and practical, but there is much, much more to software development than code and tools. It's good to focus also on on subjects that are harder to pin down.

Randomness, chaos, unpredictable human behavior, and subtle communication nuances are not normally part of our experience with the computers we control with our code, but these things dictate and pervade everything else around us. The hard part of this software development stuff is not the computers; it's everything else--especially the people stuff.

And let's face it: those of us who work in this profession know how hard and thankless the work can be. We sometimes need help to be reminded of the reasons we love what we do.

This is where developer.* comes in. If software development is your career, your area of study, or a hobby, developer.* can be a primary source of not only information, but also inspiration. We seek a broader scope, a larger context. We want to struggle with the soft stuff, the hard stuff, the fuzzy stuff, the fun stuff. The scope of articles and discussion you will find at DeveloperDotStar.com is more than just the how-to. You'll find great technical ideas and articles here too, but you will also find articles about a range of topics that are not purely technical.

We hope you will come back often.
