This is the inaugural post to two new developer.* blogs. As I'll describe in a moment, both of these new blogs will have their own dedicated URLs and RSS feeds. Most of the time, posts to these blogs will not show up on the front page of the developer.* Blogs and Discussion sub-site [1] or in the main developer.* Blogs RSS feed [2]. Instead, new posts to these blogs will show up in their own lists on the right side of the main page, on their own home pages, and in their own feeds. This way people can follow these more narrowly focussed blogs separately from the main flow of blogs.
The first new blog is called developer.* News [3], which as the name suggests will include things like announcements of new features or changes to the site, news about the books that we we publish, news related to developer.* authors (all three kind of developer.* authors--books, articles, and blogs), contests and giveaways, etc. The home page for the developer.* News blog can be found here [4], and the RSS feed can be found here [5].
The second new blog is called the Software Development Books Blog [6]. This is another area of interest for myself and for many developer.* readers. Posts to this blog will include book reviews, information about books published by developer.* Books, news and announcements related to books published by other publishers, software book publishing industry news, opinion and analysis, etc. Over time, the hope is that the audience for this blog will grow to include not only the general developer.* readership, but also anyone who is interested in keeping with what is going on in the world of software development books. The home page of the Software Development Books Blog can be found here [7], and the RSS feed can be found here [8].
One cool aspect of the Software Development Books Blog [9] is that any developer.* member can contribute. If you are adding a new post to your blog (such as a book review) and you think the post is relevant to the scope of the Software Development Books Blog, just select the entry of the same name from the list of categories on the posting page (it's all the way at the end of the list). Most of the time, your blog post will also show up on the developer.* Blogs home page and in the main feed, as normal.
If either or both of these new blogs are interesting to you, I encourage you to subscribe to the feeds, or just watch the blocks on the right side showing the latest posts in these new blogs. Your interest and support is what gives this site life, and I'm eternally grateful for you.
Thanks for reading,
Dan
P.S.
Speaking of new RSS feeds, if you are, like me, one of those developer.* readers who likes to follow all the discussions and posts, but you're not able to visit the site every day, I recommend subscribing to our new comments feed [10], which contains *all* comments posted to developer.*, including those for articles and all blog posts. The level of activity is so high these days that comments roll off the "Recent Comments" within a couple days, and you might miss something.
P.P.S.
Make that three new blogs [11].
