Why should you register for the developer.* Cooperative Digest? That is a fair question. There are a million sites out there, all clamoring for you to sign up, give up your personal information, and come back for regular visits--why should you consider developer.* over all the other sites competing for your attention?

The developer.* Cooperative Digest offers a chance to express your ideas, wishes, hopes, frustrations, questions, and experiences with a global audience of like-minded people. Thousands of software professionals visit DeveloperDotStar.com every week. Most will only want to read the many articles, blog posts, and book reviews--and that's fine. (We love our readers!) But some people (maybe you?) want to contribute, to join in, to connect with other developers, to share what you have to say with the global software development community.

If you have ever had the desire to publish your ideas and thoughts about software development, this is the place to do it. Every registered member gets his or her own blog, hosted for free, including an RSS feed, and high rankings in the search engines (so that your posts will be found and ranked high in search results). By hosting your blog with developer.* you will be placed directly in front of an audience of your peers--an audience that you will have a hard time reaching with your blog buried in the depths of one of the big blogging services.

Blogs are not the only way to contribute. You can post comments to any article (including this one) within the Cooperative Digest. We have discussion forums as well. And you can write and post "stories," which are sort of mini-articles that are not part of a blog.

Consider also that developer.* is an independent site. We're not owned by one of the big media companies. To start with, we only collect a very small amount of personal information (really just your name and email address), and we will never--ever--share it with anyone. You might receive the occassional email from us, but we will not rent, share, or sell your name. It's a promise we've kept since we started in 2001.
