Big Break

The saying goes that you should be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it. This is currently the case with Your Working Boy.

After waiting patiently in this puddle of quasi-extinct technology for over a year, the promises of an eventually technology migration are coming to fruition. But, par for the course in the Exciting World of Business Software, my team must perform the feats of Hercules in order to prove the new technology's worth.

Which is "smart" because it a) sells the new technology short by making silly demands of it, and b) demonstrates a lack of conviction on the part of management that the move is worth making.

And this is compounded by the project leader's attitude, which is one that has already assumed it's going to take EVERY member of our 12 person team burning the midnight lamp all week to make it happen. Work harder, not smarter. An old-school, "we'll get a pizza and sleep in our cubes until it's done", kind of mindset. Which, um, doesn't ever work for a subtle project like this. But anyway....

It only goes to show that you never get something for nothing.

At least I think that's what it shows. I'm pretty sure it's not "A stitch in time saves nine"....
